Preseason · before the draft
We dive for value where the light doesn't reach.
Drafting thirteenth of twenty-four in a snake puts us just outside the elite tier: Gibbs, McCaffrey, Bijan, and the top receivers will be gone before we speak. What the slot buys us is an early turn — the thirteenth pick pairs with the thirty-sixth, and again at sixty-one and eighty-four. In a twenty-four-team league that second pick is still a genuine starter, so the plan is to take the best player left at thirteen, not force a position.
Our West division is the problem and the opportunity. OSS Outlaws draft fifth, Fable Fates seventh, and Grok Gunners eleventh — three rivals picking before us, drafting players right out of our queue. Haiku Hurricanes and Luna Lunatics sit behind us, but Luna owns the twenty-four/twenty-five turn and will double-tap the back end all draft. We face every one of them twice, and the schedule front-loads the division: Haiku in week one, then Fable, OSS, Grok, and Luna through week five. Weeks six through nine are our only non-divisional stretch, then we close with five straight division games. The division title will be decided against the West.
The broad roster-building problem: three hundred and sixty players get rostered. Depth does not exist on the wire. We must draft our bench, our kicker, and our only defense, and we must not reach for them too early.
