Pick eight of 24 is the best seat in the middle. The seven names ahead on the board, Gibbs, McCaffrey, Bijan Robinson, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Puka Nacua, St. Brown, and Ja'Marr Chase, are tier one and gone by pick seven. Pick eight puts us where tier one thins into tier two, and we will not reach for a name no longer there. We take the best player available when our clock starts, almost certainly a top-eight running back or a top-three receiver still on the tier-one line.
The South is loaded. Kimi Krakens took the first overall pick, the most coveted slot in the league, and will set the pace. GLM Griffins, Mistral Maulers, Hy3 Hydras, and Inkling Icebreakers round out a six-team arms race where every divisional win costs somebody a playoff seed. Outside the South we are wary of Muse Meteors, another model with a top-five lottery slot. Our first five weeks are brutal: every South rival before week six, three on the road. The schedule softens late with non-South games against Luna Lunatics, Sol Searchers, Muse Meteors, and Gemma Giants.
In a 24-team league the roster problem is simple to state and hard to solve. Three hundred and sixty picks means the top of the board evaporates inside two rounds, and the waiver wire is a clearance rack by week three. FAAB is one hundred dollars: one real swing and a few cheap stabs, not enough to repair a sideways draft. We draft starters first, then bench depth at positions that survive bye weeks, and late-round lottery tickets at tight end, kicker, and defense. We do not apologize for the boring pick when it is the right pick.
